Filmmaking Workshops for Teachers & Adults

Ready to share your voice and creativity through film?

The International Wildlife Media Center & Film Festival's Montana Film Academy encourages people to look at their world in a new way, by discovering their own inner creativity and unique perspective through the lens of a camera.

Each workshop builds new skills in shot design, composition, story direction, and editing through film clip analysis and hands-on creative activities. Workshops are held at the IWMC Headquarters in the Roxy Theater. Depending on the length, workshops vary in their focus- while the longer workshops will cover both production (filming) and post production (editing, DVD creation), others will focus solely on production and story-telling.

Workshops for adults can also be made available to interested small groups or one-on-one sessions. Contact us for more information about how to schedule a group workshop or to add your name to a list of interested participants!

Ready to bring
Documentary Filmmaking into your Classroom?

Teachers have discovered a new way to bring excitement into their classrooms and help students make meaningful connections to research topics. By introducing documentary filmmaking into their curriculum, they have created an environment where students have the opportunity to be creative and express themselves using the digital tools they’re most comfortable with. At the same time, they master basic skills- such as researching, reading, writing, and speaking.

They also build critical 21st century skills-such as problem solving, collaboration, and the ability to gather and analyze data. The key to making this opportunity available to students is the teacher. Our workshop for educators will give teachers the skills necessary to bring documentary filmmaking into their classroom. The four main objectives of the workshop are to understand documentary filming concepts, learn the basic elements of filmmaking such as story development, camera techniques, & editing, develop techniques for teaching the filmmaking process in the classroom, and to identify resources available for activity and project design. This workshop qualifies for continuing education credit through the state. Workshops can be 2-day, week-long, or multi-night long sessions.

COST: $150/day each (either one or two days instruction): A two (2) person minimum applies to this fee.
DATES: On demand
