Documentary Filmmaking: Workshops for Educators
Designed specifically for educators, these occasional workshops will teach the basics of filmmaking and provide tools for bringing the process into the classroom or out into the field. With hands-on practice, learn the basics of digital camera operation, shot design, script writing, editing and other trade techniques in the filmmaking process. EarthVision Video Library Selections with Accompanying EdPacks
The International Wildlife Media Center has over 50 EdPacks created to accompany Video Library films. Created by University of Montana students, these art and science lesson guides enrich the viewing experience of students through hands-on activities and exercises that encourage critical thinking. Each EdPack is geared toward a certain grade level but can be easily adapted for other age groups. Through use and continuous evaluation, along with supportive funding, the materials are constantly being improved upon and expanded. EdPacks can be rented with Videos at $5 each plus shipping if applicable.

You can also request our Video Library Catalog, Vol. 1, created especially for teachers but is also a great resource for families and homeschoolers! This compilation describes 45 of our best Video Library selections, and titles are cross-referenced alphabetically, by category and by grade level appropriateness. List also indicates which videos include EdPacks.

School Matinees during IWFF & Montana CINE Festival Weeks
Every spring and fall, teachers and their students from Western Montana anticipate the excitement of our School Matinee programs. Morning films are dedicated to K-5 students, and afternoon sessions are geared toward ages in sixth grade and above.

Educators enjoy these science-based field trips to the Wilma Theater in downtown Missoula, especially when they complement a class viewing with an EdPack related to one of the matinee films.
